St. Norbert Claims Third MWC Championship in Five Years

ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert College held on to earn its third Midwest Conference championship in the last five seasons with a solid performance at the MWC Championship at Aldeen Golf Club.
The Green Knights, who also won the MWC title in 2013 and 2015, carded a 54-hole score of 311-322-316--949 to hold off Lake Forest College by three strokes. The Foresters finished with a 320-318-314--952 to finish as runner-up. Lake Forest's Davis Dekorte was the individual champion with a 77-77-77--231.
St. Norbert earns the MWC's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Championship, held May 16-19 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Green Knights were led by Luke Bourneuf, who was named the MWC Newcomer of the Year. The freshman finished with a 79-77-76--232 to finish one stroke off the pace.
St. Norbert also had two more all-conference performers. Eric Bagg finished fourth with a 75-82-81--238, while Joe Scherer tied for seventh with a 77-83-80--240.
Tony Arnold just missed all-conference honors by finishing in a tie for 11th place with an 80-80-84--244. Ben Bobinski and Luke Karakas tied for 20th place. Bobinski finished with an 86-87-79--252, while Karakas registered an 82-87-83--252.
St. Norbert coach Tripp Maher was also named MWC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the tournament.
