St. Norbert Sweeps Major Awards on All-MWC Squad

DE PERE -- St. Norbert College swept the major awards in the All-Midwest Conference North Division team announced by the conference office.

Sophomore third baseman Griffin Jack was named the division's Player of the Year, while junior pitcher/outfielder Jason Malkowski was selected Pitcher of the Year. Freshman pitcher Carson Jacques was honored as Newcomer of the Year, while coach Tom Winske was named Coach of the Year.

Jack, Malkowski and Jacques were three of the Green Knights' six all-conference honorees. Junior shortstop Hunter Larson, senior second baseman Derek Klegin and sophomore right fielder Sean Ferraro were also chosen.

Jack, a Neenah native, hit .405 in conference play and is hitting .331 overall with three home runs and 30 runs batted in. He has 12 stolen bases and 10 doubles.

Malkowski, a Greenville native, was 4-0 with a 2.03 earned run average and a .206 batting average against in conference play. Overall, he is 6-0 with a 1.97 earned run average and a .227 batting average against.

Jacques, a De Pere native, was 2-0 with two saves with a 2.20 earned run average and .274 batting average against in MWC games. He is 4-1 with a 2.28 earned run average and .273 batting average against overall.

Larson, a Marquette, Mich., native, hit .391 in conference action. He is hitting a team-high .346 overall with 10 doubles, two home runs and 29 runs batted in overall.

Klegin, a Marinette native, hit .384 in conference play and is hitting .333 overall. He has a team-high 13 stolen bases with 28 runs scored. It is Klegin's fourth first-team All-MWC North honor.

Ferraro, a Libertyville, Ill., native, hit .370 in conference action. He is hitting .307 overall with six stolen bases.

Winske has led St. Norbert to a 26-10 record, the most regular-season wins in school history. The Green Knights won the MWC North with a 15-2 ledger. The North Division Coach of the Year honor is Winske's ninth.

St. Norbert opens MWC Tournament play against Cornell on Friday in Grinnell, Iowa.
