LA CROSSE - St. Norbert College saw its magical run to the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament end with a 4-0 loss to Benedictine University in the regional tournament hosted by UW-La Crosse at North Campus Field.

The Green Knights (21-16) won the Midwest Conference regular season and tournament championships with five freshmen everyday starters and two freshmen pitchers just one year after finishing in ninth place in the MWC.

St. Norbert had to battle from behind early, after Benedictine (34-12) scored two runs in the first inning on four consecutive two-out hits. Selena Kweder and Emily Moore had RBI singles in the inning for the Eagles, who advanced to the Super Regional round of the tournament last season.

Benedictine would make that lead hold up until it added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning on three hits and two St. Norbert errors.

St. Norbert mounted a rally in the seventh inning. Tia Danforth reached on an error and Amanda Diedrich singled. After a pair of strikeouts, Ashley Schuettpelz singled to load the bases with two outs, but a popup ended the game.

The Green Knights couldn't solve Benedictine pitcher Holly Haberkorn, who improved to 23-5 by allowing three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Sydney Pfotenhauer took the loss, allowing nine hits with no walks and no strikeouts while yielding nine hits.
