Green Knights Get Two Runner-Up Finishes at MWC Singles Championship

MADISON - St. Norbert College had two players advance to championship matches in their flights at the Midwest Conference Singles Championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Meg Witt at No. 2 and Sofie Koppmann at No. 6 reached championship matches before finishing as runner-ups.
Witt fell to Lake Forest College's Allison Watts 6-3, 6-4 in the championship match at No. 2. She defeated Knox College's Annaliese McDermott 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and then topped Grinnell College's Amelia Cogan 7-6 (6), 6-7 (3), 6-2 in their semifinal.
Koppmann lost to Grinnell College's Lily Hamilton 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 championship. Koppmann beat Monmouth College's Natalie Curtis 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Cornell College's Janice Elkerton 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Claire Hetzel won the consolation title at No. 4 with an 8-5 win over Monmouth's Morgan Holle. Hetzel topped Ripon College's Carly Wesner 8-2 in the consolation semifinal after a quarterfinal loss to Knox's Miranda Corbett 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-4.
Jordyn Lawatsch reached the semifinals at No. 1 singles before suffering a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Grinnell's Milica Cvrkota. Lawatsch topped Lawrence University's Lindsay Holsen 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Stephanie Doerfert also advanced to the semifinals at No. 5 before succumbing to Lake Forest's Gracy Gould 6-1, 6-0. Doerfert beat Knox's Maddie Schacht 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Lauren Paulson lost in the consolation championship at No. 4 to Lawrence's Katie Nottberg to 8-5. Paulson beat Ripon's MacKenzie Warner 8-2 in the consolation semifinals after opening with a quarterfinal setback to Knox's Emily Miller 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
