Green Knights Top Concordia-Wisconsin In Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened the 2017-18 season with a solid 6-2 win over Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, won their season opener for the 18th consecutive season.

St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead when Roman Uchyn scored at 16:20 of the first period.

The Green Knights added to their lead when Keegan Milligan added a power-play goal at 1:40 of the second period, but the Falcons answered at 8:53 with a power-play goal by Dante Hahn. St. Norbert responded at 16:40, when Steven Phillips scored on a shorthanded breakout for a 3-1 lead into second intermission.

Concordia (2-1, 0-1 NCHA) scored a shorthanded goal of its own at 2:42 of the third period, but the Green Knights scored three times in short order to put the game away. Brad Pung scored a power-play goal at 3:13, followed by a Nick LeSage goal at 5:40. Kurt Black then closed out the scoring with a marker at 7:40.

Riley Christensen scored three assists for the Green Knights, while LeSage and Milligan added an assist for two-point games. Tanner Froese also had two assists.

St. Norbert outshot Concordia 22-14. The Green Knights were 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Falcons were 1-for-7.

T.J. Black made 12 saves for St. Norbert.
