St. Norbert Settles For Tie at Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. - St. Norbert College couldn't slow down Finlandia University's offense and had to settle for a 4-4 tie in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Houghton County Arena.

St. Norbert (3-2-1, 3-0-1 NCHA) skated to a 1-1 tie after the first 20 minutes. Jessica Schlaff scored unassisted for St. Norbert with a power-play goal at 7:08. The Lions answered 59 seconds later on a goal by Sierra Meiners.

Meiners put Finlandia ahead 2-1 with a shorthanded goal at 4:45 of the second period. The Green Knights knotted the game at 2-2 with Rebecka Olsson's goal at 6:02, but Finlandia responded with another shorthanded goal, this one by Hannah Tormanen at 13:07. St. Norbert would take a 3-3 tie into the second intermission after Lexi Pyykkonen's goal at 15:06.

Pyykkonen would score just 38 seconds into the third period for a 4-3 St. Norbert lead. Finlandia found the equalizer off the stick of Tormanen at 5:07.

St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 4-1 in the overtime period but couldn't find the game-winning goal.

The Green Knights outshot Finlandia 51-22. Leigh Grall made 12 saves in 45:07 of work, while Brianna Kelly made six stops in 19:53 of relief for St. Norbert. Annah Smiddy made 47 saves for the Lions.

St. Norbert was 2-for-6 on the power play, while Finlandia was 0-for-5.
