Balanced Effort Leads St. Norbert Past Knox

DE PERE - St. Norbert College had four players in double figures as the Green Knights posted an 81-69 Midwest Conference win over Knox College at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (4-1, 1-0 MWC) received a career-high scoring effort from Brian Luteyn, who finished with a game-high 18 points. Taylor Penn added 17 points, Mitchell Reinthaler 16 points and D.J. DeValk 11 points.

St. Norbert never trailed, taking an 11-2 lead out of the gate. Penn's 3-pointer gave the Green Knights a nine-point lead early. Reinthaler's putback at the 10:58 mark but St. Norbert up 24-11. Knox would go on a 15-7 run to get to within 31-26, but St. Norbert responded to take a 40-27 edge with 4:37 left. The Prairie Fire went on a quick 9-0 run to get to within 40-36, but a 7-0 response by the Green Knights gave the host some breathing room and a 47-38 halftime lead.

The Green Knights scored the first nine points of the second half to take a 56-38 lead, and never saw their lead dip below 12 points the rest of the game.

St. Norbert shot 53.6 percent (30-for-56) from the floor despite missing its last 11 shots. The Green Knights shot a lusty 76 percent (19-for-25) from the field in the first half, and held a commanding 36-19 rebounding advantage for the game.

Deryk Ruple led Knox with 13 points. The Prairie Fire shot 50 percent from the floor, making 25 of 50 field-goal attempts.
