Green Knights Power Past Sabres

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored a season-high seven goals for the second time in three games as the Green Knights rolled to a 7-2 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (14-1-1, 9-0 NCHA), ranked No. 1 in the D3hockey.com and USCHO.com Division III polls, scored on the power play three times to beat a Marian (10-4-1, 5-4) squad which was 9-1-1 in its last 11 games entering the contest.

St. Norbert took the lead midway through the first period when Timmy Nicksic came down the slot at 9:57. Keegan Milligan added a power-play goal at 19:25 of the period when he scored through a pile in front of the net for a 2-0 edge after 20 minutes.

Peter Bates came off the bench as a St. Norbert penalty expired and scored at 10:49 of the second period. Marian answered with a pair of goals, with Brock Weston scoring at 14:28 and Jake Howie netting a shorthanded marker at 18:01. Kurt Black would score later on the St. Norbert power-play chance for a 4-2 lead at 19:00 of the second period.

The Green Knights pulled away in the third period, scoring three times in just under two minutes. Dominick Sacco scored unassisted at 7:29, followed by a Tanner Froese goal at 8:33. Black then scored another power-play goal with an unassisted score at 9:20.

Nicksic had a pair of assists for a three-point game. Luke Davison had two assists, while Milligan added an assist for a two-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 34-19. T.J. Black made 17 saves for the Green Knights, while Hunter Vorva had 27 stops for the Sabres.

St. Norbert was 3-for-7 on the power play, while Marina was 0-for-3.
