First-Period Eruption Pushes St. Norbert Past Finlandia

DE PERE - St. Norbert College poured in six first-period goals and used the scoring binge to fashion a 6-0 win over Finlandia University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (20-4-1, 15-3 NCHA), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll and No. 3 in the D3hockey.com Poll, will face Lawrence University in a NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs Quarterfinal Series at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Cornerstone Community Center.

St. Norbert wasted little time taking control of the game for the second-straight night. The Green Knights got on the board when Chris Rygus scored his first goal of the season on a shot from the blue line at 3:51. Keegan Milligan tallied his team-high 11th goal of the year on a marker at 5:52. The Green Knights pushed ahead 3-0 when Peter Bates scored a power-play goal at 13:37.

Clay Van Diest then scored his first goal of the season at 14:41. Roman Uchyn scored at 16:49, while Steven Phillips added the final goal of the game at 18:08.

Luke Davison had two assists for the Green Knights. Bates, Milligan, Uchyn and Rygus also had assists to have two-point games for St. Norbert.

St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 42-20. The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Lions were 0-for-1.

T.J. Black made four saves, Ryan Bontorin six saves and Kevin O'Hara 10 saves with each goaltender working a period for the Green Knights. Matt Arnold (12) and Marcus Gloss (24) combined to make 36 saves for Finlandia.
