Green Knights Repay Foresters

DE PERE - St. Norbert College never trailed and avenged a home loss last Wednesday to Lake Forest College with a 68-58 win over the Foresters at the LFC Sports Center.

The Green Knights (9-5) scored the first seven points of the game on a 3-pointer by Christine Olijnyk and a pair of baskets by Sarah Neumann. The Foresters tied the game 9-9 and 11-11 before St. Norbert went on another 7-0 run. Hayley Winzenried and Neumann had baskets before Carley Frauenhoff drilled a 3-pointer for an 18-11 lead with 1:22 left in the first quarter. The Green Knights settled on an 18-16 lead after the first quarter.

The game was tied 20-20 early in the second quarter before Olijnyk rang up a pair of 3-pointers for a 26-20 edge at the 6:38 mark. St. Norbert would hold at least a four-point lead the rest of the half until taking a 38-31 lead into the halftime break.

St. Norbert kept its lead throughout the third quarter, leading 50-41 with 10 minutes to play. The Green Knights led 58-48 with 6:36 left before the Foresters went on an 8-0 run. Kelsey Schmitt's 3-pointer brought the Foresters to within 58-56 with 2:24 to go. St. Norbert and Lake Forest traded empty possessions until Sarah Wiseman's hoop put St. Norbert up 60-56 with 1:43 left. Macie Zurfluh then pilfered the ball and went in for a layup and a 62-56 lead with 1:21 to go. Schmitt scored with 1:02 left but Sarah Ratajczyk salted the game away with a layup with 30 seconds left.

St. Norbert had five players in double figures. Ratajczyk finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Neumann had 12 points, while Olijnyk, Zurfluh and Wiseman all had 11 points apiece. The Green Knights shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) from the floor.

Lake Forest shot 36.5 percent (23-for-63) from the floor. Schmitt led the Foresters with 15 points.
