Green Knights Sweep Knox

LAKELAND, Fla. - St. Norbert College swept Knox College 7-1 and 16-5 in a non-conference doubleheader at historic Henley Field.

The Green Knights (5-3) rode the right arm of Carson Jacques to win the opener and then scored eight runs in the top of the first inning in the nightcap to take control.

Jacques fashioned a complete-game win by scattering seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

St. Norbert scored two runs in the first inning of the opener on a Tyler Banovich RBI triple and a Robbie Dombrowski groundout. The Prairie Fire scored its run in the second inning and trailed 2-1 going into the fourth inning. Jason Malkowski had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and he later came around to score on an error for a 4-1 lead. The Green Knights added three runs in the sixth inning on a Sean Grant RBI single and a two-run double from Sean Ferraro.

Grant was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Ferraro was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Banovich had a sacrifice fly, while Griffin Jack, Robbie Dombrowski and Jacob Raeder all had RBI singles. Brett Reinhart followed with a two-run triple. Banovich and Jack each forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk to close out the rally.

The Green Knights added five runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by RBI singles from Grant and Ferraro and a Reinhart sacrifice fly. Grant's bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning accounted for St. Norbert's final runs.

Raeder was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Grant was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Riley Lynch earned the win for the Green Knights, allowing two hits and three runs with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
