Trip to Quad Cities Yields Win Over St. Ambrose

MOLINE, Ill. - A three-meet weekend resulted in one win against strong opponents for the St. Norbert College men's tennis team during a trip to the Quad Cities.

St. Norbert lost a non-conference match to Grinnell College 9-0 and an 8-1 decision to Augustana College on Feb. 14. The Green Knights rebounded the next day to pull out a 5-4 triumph over St. Ambrose University.

The Green Knights (3-2) split six singles matches with the Fighting Bees but claimed two of three doubles matches to eke out the win. Jordan Bauer and Mike Hyrczyk topped St. Ambrose's Luke Ebener and Kyle Wood 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Derek Harrington and Matt Schmitz defeated Chris Cassens and Nicolas Goodknight 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Harrington topped Michael Medchill at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-1, followed by Nate Tackaberry's 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Cassens at No. 5 singles. Schmitz defeated Goodknight 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles for the other St. Norbert win.

Against Augustana, Schmitz picked up St. Norbert's only win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Chris Fowler at No. 6 singles.
