St. Norbert Gets Past Finlandia

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won its final non-conference game of the year with a 66-51 win over Finlandia University at Schuldes Sports Center. The Green Knights won their fifth-straight game in improving to 11-3. The Lions dropped to 4-14.

Finlandia hung around in the early going, trailing 14-10 midway through the first half. St. Norbert then went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to break the game open. Morgan Strasser had five points during the run, Emily Otzelberger four, Bri Hauge three and two by Cortney Biese. The Green Knights led 37-23 at halftime.

The Lions cut the deficit down to 48-34 with 14:26 left on a 3-pointer by Deanna Makela. St. Norbert went on a quick 7-0 run fueled by a three-point play by Stefanie Bunday, another basket by Bunday and a layup by Denise Heuser. Finlandia would not get closer than the game's final score after that.

Bunday led St. Norbert with 11 points, while Hauge and Heuser each added 10 points apiece. Twelve different players scored for St. Norbert, which shot just 36.1 percent from the floor - making 26 of 72 shots.

Finlandia was paced by Jodi Riutta's 14 points, while Makela added 12 points. The Lions were 19-for-48 (39.6 percent) from the floor and had 26 turnovers.
