Green Knights Top NCAA Division II Shepherd to Open Spring Trip

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - St. Norbert College's men's tennis team improved to 7-7 on the season with a 7-2 win over Shepherd (W. Va.) University, an NCAA Division II opponent.

The Green Knights trailed 2-1 after doubles action but swept the six singles matches to earn the win. St. Norbert lost to Shepherd 5-4 last year in Hilton Head.

Eric Koppmann and Matt Schmitz earned St. Norbert's doubles point at No. 3, topping Tim Lloyd and Jordan Hunter 8-0.

Schmitz beat Hunter 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, while Ethan Kadow outdueled Lloyd 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. Jordan Bauer claimed the win at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Andy Bosco, while Derek Harrington beat Nathan Jones 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2. Koppmann and Nate Tackaberry both picked up three-set wins to complete the singles sweep. Koppman beat Jesse Humeas 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 3, while Tackaberry beat Bobby Sisson 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 4.

St. Norbert continues its trip to Hilton Head Monday with a dual against Macalester College.
