Green Knights Fall to Montclair State, Hope

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College's softball team was swept for the third straight day, falling to Montclair State University 14-3 and Hope College 9-4 at the Rebel Spring Games.

The Green Knights fell behind 11-0 after 1 1/2 innings, as Montclair State pounded out 20 hits in the five-inning game. St. Norbert scored in the second inning when Stephanie Ortiz singled home Brieanne Oehlke. St. Norbert added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by Collette Ullmer.

Ortiz was 2-for-2 against Montclair State, while Kayla Krueger was 2-for-3. Krueger took the loss, working 2.1 innings while allowing 12 hits and 11 runs.

St. Norbert held a 3-2 lead after 1 1/2 innings against Hope but couldn't hold off the Flying Dutchmen, who scored in five of six innings. Krueger had an RBI double and Oehlke an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Kim Sawyer had an RBI single in the second and Kristin Zimmerman an RBI single in the third but St. Norbert couldn't score again.

Zimmerman was 3-for-3 for St. Norbert, which had 10 hits. Oehlke was 3-for-4 and Krueger 2-for-4. Kari Corbeillie took the loss, allowing 15 hits and nine runs in 5.2 innings.

St. Norbert will play Carthage College and nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday.
