St. Norbert Opens MWC Slate With Convincing Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened its 2009 Midwest Conference women's volleyball schedule with a solid 25-12, 25-21, 25-9 win over Knox College at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, who won the 2008 MWC championship, improved to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in the league. Knox fell to 3-15, 0-2.

St. Norbert broke open a 9-8 lead in the first set with a 7-1 scoring run. Knox would cut the deficit to 16-10 but would get no closer in the set.

The Green Knights had their hands full with the Prairie Fire in the second set, with the set squared at 19-19. A pair of Knox attack errors followed by two Sarah Sulentic kills pushed the Green Knights ahead 23-19 and closed out the game from there.

St. Norbert went on a 17-1 scoring run in the third set to take a 20-3 advantage and close out the match.

The Green Knights hit .212 in the match, and were led by 10 kills from Sulentic and eight from Lauren Meehan. Mary Kate Manion had 10 digs, while Laura Ayello registered 32 assists. Danielle Remy had five blocks, while Jungbluth had three service aces.

Knox hit minus-.075 for the match, and had nine kills from Kelly Ricketts.
