Schroeder, Post-Van Handel Tandem Win MWC Titles

Schroeder captured the championship of the No. 6 flight, while Post and Van Handel won the No. 1 doubles flight.
St. Norbert, which won the Midwest Conference title by winning the team tournament on Oct. 16, also won the singles/doubles tournament with 73 points. Grinnell College had 72 points, while Beloit College had 64.
Schroeder topped Grinnell's Elizabeth Spears 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the championship after topping Beloit's Ashley Miglin 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Post and Van Handel defeated Beloit's Hannah Perwin and Erika Zevin 6-2, 7-5 to claim their championship. The pair topped Lake Forest College's Melika Celebic and Nonie Carson 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.
Post advanced to the finals of the No. 1 flight but lost to Ccelebic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Post defeated Perwin 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. Van Handel also fell in the finals at No. 2 singles, losing to Zevin 7-5, 6-2.
St. Norbert's Maria Slusarek and Kristyn Klind advanced to the finals of No. 3 doubles, but fell to Grinnell's Kelsey Picken and Jill Akiyama 6-2, 7-5. Slusarek and Klind topped Beloit's Miglin and Julia Win 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.
