Green Knights Claim 11th Midwest Conference Volleyball Championship

BELOIT - St. Norbert College claimed its 11th Midwest Conference women's volleyball championship, including its fifth in the last eight years, with a four-set win over Beloit College at Flood Arena.

The Green Knights topped the host Buccaneers 25-20, 18-25-, 25-21, 25-22 to run the table in the MWC at 9-0. St. Norbert finished the regular season 22-9. Beloit had a 10-match winning streak snapped to finish 23-5, 8-1.

The first set was tied 20-20 before St. Norbert closed it out with five straight points. Tory Dohm had a pair of kills in the run for the Green Knights. The second set was tied 13-13 before Beloit slowly pulled away. The Green Knights were within 19-16 but a 4-1 run by Beloit sealed the set for the host.

St. Norbert trailed early in the third set 5-1 before coming back to tie it at 9-9. St. Norbert trailed 21-19 before getting six straight points to finish out the set. Dohm had two more kills during the decisive run.

The fourth set was also closely fought, with Beloit holding a 21-20 lead. St. Norbert was tough down the stretch again, finishing with a 6-2 run to win the match and the championship.

St. Norbert hit .192 for the match, netting 61 kills against 26 errors in 182 attempts. Dohm had a team-high 18 kills with seven errors in 40 attempts. Sarah Sulentic had 14 kills, while Danielle Remy added 12. Laura Ayello had 48 assists. The Green Knights had 91 digs, with Catherine Guido posting 29 and Lauren Meehan 20.

Beloit hit .143, getting 49 kills against 23 errors in 182 attempts. Laura Toth had 18 kills and Tess Jacquez added 11. Caitlin O'Leary had 43 assists, while Esther Chiu had 26 digs.

St. Norbert will now host the Midwest Conference Tournament on Nov. 6-7 at Schuldes Sports Center in De Pere.
