Bernardy's Late Goal Lifts St. Norbert Past UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE - St. Norbert College rallied from a 2-1 deficit after two periods to post a 3-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association triumph over UW-Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The Green Knights, ranked third in the USCHO.com Division III poll, moved their unbeaten streak to 39 against the Blugolds, going 37-0-2 in the last 15 years. St. Norbert is now 13-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the NCHA, and holds a three-point league lead over UW-Stout with two games in hand on the Blue Devils. Eau Claire fell to 5-8-3, 1-5-3.

Mike Bernardy scored the game-winning goal with 9 minutes 15 seconds left in the third period. Bernardy's marker came on the power play, 15 seconds after Eau Claire was whistled for having too many men on the ice. Nick Tabisz and Matt Boyd had assists on the goal, which was only St. Norbert's 16th power play goal in 16 games this season.

Eau Claire jumped ahead 1-0 at 13:24 of the first period when Isaiah Bennis scored on a trickler. St. Norbert's Kyle Stroh scored at 3:30 of the second period for his fourth goal of the year. Eau Claire's Jordan Singer answered with a power-play goal at 10:55 of the sceond period for a 2-1 advantage. That goal would hold up until Tyler Allen scored his seventh goal of the season at 2:07 of the third period off assists from Johan Ryd and Adam Hammerbeck.

St. Norbert held a slim 35-31 advantage in shots on goal, including 11-7 in the third period. The Green Knights were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Blugolds were 1-for-2.

B.J. O'Brien improved to 13-1-1 this season with a 29-save performance, with 16 stops coming in the second period. Tyler Brigl made 32 saves for the Blugolds, who had an empty net for the final minute of play.
