Big First Half Leads to Convincing Win Over Beloit

BELOIT - A stellar defensive effort in the first half paced St. Norbert College to a 70-42 win over Beloit College in a Midwest Conference game at Flood Arena.

The Green Knights, 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the MWC, held the Buccaneers to 10 first-half points in taking a 31-10 lead at the break. The Buccaneers fell to 6-11, 4-6.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the game's first nine minutes, and then pushed its advantage to as 25-8 with 2:37 left in the first half on an Erin Baganz basket. The Green Knights held Beloit to 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) shooting from the floor in the first half.

The Green Knights would extend their lead to as much as 35 points at 58-23 with 6:57 left before Beloit would close out the game on a 19-12 run.

St. Norbert shot a blistering 61.9 percent from the floor, making 26 of 42 field-goal attempts. Emily Otzelberger led St. Norbert with 13 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. Denise Heuser added 11 points and Krista Pelky 10.

The Buccaneers shot 17-for-42 (40.5 percent) from the floor. Diana Sopkowicz led Beloit with 17 points, while Mary Parker added 16 points.
