Defense Holds Firm Down Stretch as St. Norbert Tops Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College held Monmouth College to just two points over the last 9 minutes 18 seconds of the game as the Green Knights went on to post a 59-45 Midwest Conference win at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, now 15-3 overall and 9-2 in the MWC, are now in a second-place tie with Lake Forest College and control their own destiny in the league race. Monmouth fell to 10-8, 5-6.

Monmouth pulled to within 47-43 with 9:18 left on a Lynsey Barnard layup. From there, St. Norbert would go on a 12-0 run to lead 5-43 with 2:25 left. During St. Norbert's run, Monmouth would go 15 possessions without scoring. The Scots would commit 10 turnovers during the drought and miss six field goals before Keli Jo Hinkle ended the dry spell on an offensive putback with 55 seconds left.

Krista Pelky scored 10 of St. Norbert's 12 points during the decisive run, and finished the game with 18 points. Rachel Hermus and Denise Heuser each added eight points for the Green Knights, who shot just 34.4 percent (21-for-61) from the floor.

Monmouth shot 30.8 percent (16-for-52) from the floor for the game and had 26 turnovers to five assists. Justine Boone had 13 points and Zipporah Williams 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Scots.
