Green Knights Wear Down Lady Blues to Advance to MWC Tournament Title Game

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored 47 second-half points to rally and top Illinois College 69-54 in a Midwest Conference Tournament semifinal game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights improved to 21-3 in winning their 14th-straight game, and will face Ripon at 6 p.m. Saturday at Schuldes Sports Center for the tournament championship. Illinois College's season ended at 14-10.

Illinois College led 24-22 at halftime after the Green Knights went the final 9 minutes 51 seconds of the first half without a field goal. Denise Heuser's fastbreak layup gave St. Norbert a 21-14 lead, but the Green Knights would miss their final 14 field-goal attempts of the half.

St. Norbert opened the second half on a quick 7-0 run, getting a basket by Kristin Zimmerman, a 3-pointer by Erin Baganz and a layup by Heuser to lead 29-24. The Lady Blues countered with a 5-0 run to square the game at 29-29, but the Green Knights went on an 11-1 run for a 40-30 lead with 11:58 left to take command of the game.

Illinois College trailed 42-34 with 10:53 left, but St. Norbert went on an 8-0 run to put the game away at 50-34 with 8:06 to go.

Heuser and Baganz each scored 12 points to lead St. Norbert, which shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the floor for the game. The Green Knights were 19-for-33 (57.6 percent) from the floor in the second half.

Candy Norville led Illinois College with 17 points, while Rachel Macon added 14 points. The Lady Blues shot 40.4 percent (21-for-52) from the floor.
