DE PERE - Despite playing shorthanded, St. Norbert College had little trouble winning its 15th consecutive game topping Ripon College 73-57 in the Midwest Conference Tournament championship game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, who lost leading rebounder Rachel Hermus to an injury in the tournament semifinals, shot 50 percent from the floor to clinch an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament. It is the ninth NCAA tournament appearance for the Green Knights and venerable head coach Connie Tilley.

St. Norbert took command of the game early, taking a 9-2 lead just over four minutes into the game, and eventually had a 15-5 advantage with 12:39 left before halftime on a Kristin Zimmerman 3-pointer. The Green Knights led 35-17 late in the half before settling on a 35-22 advantage at intermission.

Erin Lind's conventional three-point play cut Ripon's deficit to 37-27 with 15:58 left to play. Erin Baganz stemmed the tide with a 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor, and started a 9-0 run in the process. Jamie Kuhl's jumper in the paint gave the Green Knights a 47-27 lead with 14:12 to go and Ripon never seriously threatened after that.

Denise Heuser led St. Norbert with 17 points and nine rebounds. Emily Otzelberger added 11 points, while Baganz and Kuhl had 10 apiece. The Green Knights canned 27 of 54 shots from the floor, including 6 of 13 3-pointers.

Jessica DeHamer led Ripon with 19 poitns, while Emily Meyer added 13 points. Erin Lind finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Red Hawks shot 38.2 percent (21-for-55) from the floor and had 23 turnovers, but did win the rebounding battle 36-30.
