St. Norbert to Face Adrian Wednesday in First-Round NCAA Tournament Game

DE PERE - St. Norbert College earned the top seeding in the West Region of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament for the eighth time in nine years but will still play a first-round game Wednesday against Adrian College.

The game between the Green Knights and Bulldogs will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cornerstone Community Center. The St. Norbert-Adrian winner will face either Gustavus Adolphus College (19-6-2) or the University of St. Thomas (13-10-4) in a national quarterfinal on Saturday. The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four on March 19-20 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The Green Knights (21-3-3) won the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season and Peters Cup championships. St. Norbert is 8-0-2 in its last 10 games, and won the Peters Cup championship on Saturday with a 7-1 win over UW-River Falls. The Green Knights are 12-1-1 at the Cornerstone Community Center this season.

This tournament appearance is St. Norbert's 11th, making appearances in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, with all quarterfinal-round games except for 1997 coming at home. The Green Knights are 12-9-1 all-time in the NCAA tournament and won the 2008 national championship.

Adrian (24-3) is making its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and claimed the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association's automatic berth with a 3-2 win over Marian University on Saturday.
