GROVELAND, Fla. - St. Norbert College opened up its 2010 baseball season with a doubleheader split against Fontbonne University at South Lake High School.

St. Norbert (1-1) took the opener 9-4, while Fontbonne (3-3) claimed the nightcap 4-1. Both teams were NCAA Division III Tournament participants in 2009.

The Green Knights jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning when Jordan Powers scored on an infield error, followed by sacrifice flies by Ryan Gusick and Garrick Fisher. St. Norbert added to its lead with a Jeff LaJeunesse RBI single and another infield error in the third.

The Griffins cut the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth, but Ryan Kehl had an RBI groundout in the fifth and Jared Yost's RBI single and another sacrifice fly by Fisher in the sixth salted the game away.

Yost was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs for St. Norbert. Tony Jandron pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

St. Norbert had five hits in the nightcap, with Yost going 2-for-3. Jandron's RBI single plated Yost in the first inning, but the Green Knights wouldn't score again.

Trevin Hillesheim took the complete game loss, allowing seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
