St. Norbert Opens MWC Play With Sweep of Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College opened up its Midwest Conference softball slate with a pair of wins over Beloit College at the Strong Stadium Complex. The Green Knights topped the Buccaneers by scores of 5-2 and 16-3.

The Green Knights (11-5, 2-0 MWC) scored in five different innings of the opener. Alyssa McGray had an RBI triple in the second inning, while Collette Ullmer stroked a solo home run in the sixth.

Kayla Krueger allowed six hits with two walks and six strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the year. McGray and Jessica Kropp were both 2-for-3, while Tracy Palmer was 2-for-4. St. Norbert had 10 hits in the opening game.

The Green Knights jumped ahead early in the nightcap, scoring seven times in the top of the first inning. Brieanne Oehlke, Kristin Zimmerman and Palmer all had two-run doubles in an inning where the Green Knights had eight hits. Oehlke added a two-run home run in the second, and Palmer had a two-run single in the fourth.

St. Norbert pounded out 19 hits in the nightcap. Palmer was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Zimmerman, Ullmer, Oehlke, Krueger and Stephanie Ortiz all had two hits apiece.

Kropp earned the win for St. Norbert, scattering 11 hits with no walks and five strikeouts. The Green Knights were errorless defensively for the doubleheader.
