Late Goal Lifts St. Norbert to First Win Over Nationally Ranked Foe
ADRIAN, Mich. - St. Norbert College picked up the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in program history with a 2-1 win over Adrian College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (3-4, 2-2 NCHA) gained a series split with Adrian (4-3-1, 2-3-1), which was ranked No. 10 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll and an NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier last season. It was the first win over a nationally ranked team in seven tries all-time.
Andrea Senne's goal with just 1 minute 15 seconds remaining snapped a 1-1 tie. Senne's goal was set up by a turnover in the Adrian end forced by a St. Norbert forecheck.
Adrian drew first blood on a goal by Nina Laurie 5:38 into the second period. The Green Knights responded with a well-executed power-play goal with 33 seconds left in the second. Laurel Hill fed Emma Agen on a one-timer, who knocked it home for her first goal of the season.
The Bulldogs outshot St. Norbert 21-18, but Katie Aluia made 20 saves in her second start of the season to earn the win. Emily Michelin made 16 saves for the Bulldogs. St. Norbert was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Adrian was 0-for-5.
