A.J. Aitken is in his ninth year as the Green Knights’ full-time assistant and also heads up the program’s junior varsity squad.
Instrumental in the Green Knights' recruiting efforts, Aitken was named associate head coach by head coach Tim Coghlin prior to the 2008-09 season. During his tenure with the Green Knights, St Norbert has won two NCAA Division III championship, played in six NCAA Division III Frozen Fours and five NCAA Division III national championship games. The Green Knights are an impressive 196-32-16 during his time on the hockey staff.
Aitken, a Fort McMurray, Alberta, native, played for NCAA Division I Michigan Tech from 1997 to 2000. During his four-year career, Aitken played in 140 games, scoring 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points. He also served as the Huskies’ team captain during his last two seasons. Aitken, a finance major at MTU, was also named Academic All-WCHA twice.
Following his collegiate career, Aitken played with Macon and Memphis of the Central Hockey League. His stint in Memphis, from 2001 to 2003, resulted in being a part of a pair of CHL championships.
Aitken has also been an instructor at the St. Norbert College Hockey School and at the Island Sport Center with Troy Ward and Kevin Constantine.
