Matt Houk has been named head women’s volleyball coach at St. Norbert College, athletics director Tim Bald announced today.

Houk is currently the club director and coach for the Wisconsin Volleyball Academy in Appleton. Prior to working with the Wisconsin Volleyball Academy, Houk was an assistant coach at UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee, both NCAA Division I programs.

“I am excited that Matt Houk is joining our athletic department,” Bald said. “Matt brings a broad background of experience to our volleyball program. Matt’s enthusiasm is a good fit for the program and the department.”

Houk also owns JAM Sports in Green Bay, which helps coordinate and staff youth volleyball camps in the area.

“I am very honored to be a part of St. Norbert College,” Houk said. “The volleyball program has set a tradition of excellence that I will do my best to maintain. I have very high goals for this program, and I am looking forward to getting in the gym next fall and begin training.”

Houk spent the 2004-06 seasons as an assistant at UW-Green Bay. Houk helped the Phoenix to a tie for second place in the Horizon League in 2006, its best-ever league finish. Houk was an aide at UW-Milwaukee in the 2002 and 2003 seasons.

A 2002 graduate of UW-Milwaukee, Houk played baseball collegiately at Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh. Houk was the starting shortstop on Milwaukee’s NCAA Tournament qualifier and hit .342 in his two years in a Panther uniform.
