Professional Profile
I am a teacher of the theories and practice of people working in organizations. I believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility to provide an environment where students can access and develop their knowledge. In particular, my goal for promoting learning by students is to give them ownership of their learning. It is also important to me to balance fairness with flexibility, to be accessible to students, to be innovative and enthusiastic, and to facilitate questions and discussion from all students. I have found that facilitating this type of classroom environment promotes collegiality and knowledge sharing.
I am a researcher in the areas of organizational behavior, human resource management, and entrepreneurship. In particular, I am concerned with how employees perceive their organizational environment and how people create value in organizations. Examples of some of my work includes my research on the effects of employee empowerment, published in Group and Organization Management, and my study on the value of social networks for new ventures, which has been published in Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research. I have presented papers at the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, British Academy of Management, and Babson-Kaufman Entrepreneurship conferences.
I am a professional member of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Strategic Management Society. In addition, I am a reviewer for Human Relations and for the Academy of Management Conference. At St. Norbert, I am involved as a member of the Peace and Justice Advisory Committee.
