Alumni Profile: Kathleen Caylor
Kathleen is a 1991 graduate from St. Norbert College where she double majored in Art and Graphic Communications and minored in Spanish. She took a serious interest in photography as far back as high school, where she began doing darkroom work and yearbook photography. When she started attending St. Norbert College, she continued photographing for the yearbook as well as the public relations department. While still in school, she had already been hired to photograph weddings. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and then spent nearly eight years working at Turba Photography (owned by Jerry Turba, also an SNC alum), polishing her skills and photographing virtually everything.
Kathleen began entering prints in professional competitions in 1992. She tied for Fox Valley Photographer of the Year in 1995 and 1996, and won it in 1999, 2001 and 2005. She now has an impressive collection of ribbons, plaques, and trophies from both the Fox Valley and the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Associations. By passing a written examination and a portfolio review, she has been recognized as a Certified Professional Photographer by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and she earned her Master of Photography degree from the PPA in the summer of 2000.
Although Kathleen has photographed a wide variety of subjects, her preference is for weddings, families, and children. She feels privileged to be included in her client's lives, if only for a while, because she knows that she is there to capture something truly important. The love between a bride and a groom, the spontaneity of children, the fun of a family reunion, these are the images that her clients treasure.
Currently she is running her business in a studio attached to her home, which allows her greater artistic freedom as well as more time with her daughters. She offers clients a relaxed yet professional atmosphere, always striving to provide the best customer service that she can. She works by appointment only, making every effort to accommodate her client's schedules.
