Alumni Profile: Maureen Fallon
Maureen (McMullen) Fallon graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Maureen majored in elementary education with a minor in early childhood. She is currently a first grade teacher for the Northbrook Public School District in Northbrook, Ill.
Maureen teaches at Hickory Point School located in Northbrook, Ill. Northbrook is a northern suburb located about twenty-five miles outside of Chicago. Hickory Point School is a kindergarten through third grade elementary school. The small class sizes, strong parent involvement, and professional development training provide teachers with a strong support network throughout the academic year.
As a first grade teacher, Maureen is responsible for delivering the curriculum to her students. She teaches to the entire group of students and also works closely with small groups to ensure that each child's academic needs are met. Maureen assesses the learning progress and development of her students on a daily and quarterly basis. This information is communicated to parents through conferences, newsletters and pupil study teams.
Maureen is also involved in the development and implementation of new curriculum. In addition to professional development training, Maureen meets weekly with her grade level team teachers to discuss and plan upcoming units of study.
Maureen started her teaching career at the Neenah Joint School district in Neenah, Wis. After teaching kindergarten for three years, she relocated to the Chicagoland area. In addition to teaching, she is currently pursuing her Masters in Reading Instruction at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. |
