Alumni Profile: Ryan Fiorini

Ryan Fiorini graduated from St. Norbert College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Pre-Med major.  From De Pere, he traveled to sunny Charleston, SC where he attended the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology in February of 2005.  During his tenure at MUSC, he published eight manuscripts, and presented his work at over 20 National and International meetings. 

After receiving his Ph.D., he went to work for a U.S. Department of Homeland Security defense contractor, specializing in Biological Terrorism and Pandemic Flu training for agencies including, the National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard and SC Department of Health. 
In March of 2007, he returned to MUSC and now works for the Foundation for Research Development, where he assists MUSC faculty in assessing their intellectual property and guiding them through the biotechnology business start-up process. 

Recently, he received his M.B.A., from The Citadel and his Masters in Health Administration from MUSC.  While he was a career student for much of his life, he enjoys the “non-traditional” path of a scientist.  His current job allows him to incorporate his love of science and business yielding a job that he enjoys and practical use of the education.
Apart from working at MUSC, he is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston teaching in the Biology Department, and enjoys woodworking and playing golf on his time off.

While at SNC, he was actively involved with Kappa Chi Fraternity, and worked for Public Safety for 3 years.  Additionally, he played defense for four years with the Green Bay Deacons, Semi-Pro Hockey Team.
