Alumni Profile: Carrie Haverfield
After graduating from SNC, Carrie spent two years serving in the AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) in Charleston, South Carolina. Her first year with the program consisted of completing community service projects around the southeastern United States, including working with Habitat for Humanity and painting houses for low-income and disabled residents in New Orleans. During her second year with the NCCC, she worked on campus serving as the Media Coordinator.
After serving in the NCCC, Carrie moved to the Washington, DC area where she worked as a political media consultant and publicity specialist for private companies. As a political media consultant she worked with people running for office, non-profits and unions to help make sure their message got across to the right people. She helped write ads, improve website content and coordinated a multi-state get-out-the-vote campaign. She spent nearly 5 years living in the DC area and grew to love the nation’s capitol.
Carrie recently moved to Boulder, CO, where she began working for the Boulder County government. Her first position was in the Elections Division, where she was the Voter Education and Outreach Specialist. She worked with residents of the county to make sure they were educated about their voting rights, options and obligations. She also spent a good amount of time working with the media on stories related to elections. Carrie was frequently quoted in newspapers and was interviewed by the Denver NBC station about recruiting people to serve as election judges.
Carrie now works in the County’s Commissioner’s Office as the Constituent Services Liaison. She works with residents of the county to help answer questions and solve problems they have. She also coordinates a senior tax work-off program and staffs a cultural advisory committee that allocates tax money for the arts and sciences. Recently, Carrie completed a three month Sheriff’s Citizen Academy where she learned the in’s and out’s of the Sheriff’s Office and spent time on the firing range, learning self defense and defensive driving techniques. She likes to spend her free time reading, volunteering, taking classes and hiking.
