Alumni Profile: Andrew McIlree
Andrew McIlree got much more out of Saint Norbert College than just a B.A. in History and a minor in English. The professors, priests and staff taught him the importance of community, spirituality and social justice in the world today.
St. Norbert's strong reputation as a leader in liberal arts education helped Andrew land two summer internships with the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. His responsibilities included coordinating a vintage aircraft airshow, writing a 1920s-themed murder mystery play and assisting the airport manager in Visitor Services and Aircraft Operations.
Upon graduating, Andrew joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps for a year of service to the poor and marginalized in Philadelphia, Pa. As the Street Outreach Coordinator for the Philadelphia Committee to End Homelessness, Andrew helps to empower those who are homeless by networking them with jobs and social services. He also writes for the Committee's newsletter, which makes sure that the concerns of the homeless are not overlooked by governmental bureaucracy.
Andrew's work is exciting, challenging and rewarding. He is proud to be both a St. Norbert alum and a Jesuit Volunteer. |
