Steve Peterson

SNC Class:
2004
Position Area:
Government/
Transportation---Transportation Planner
Major:
Business Administration and Economics

Alumni Profile: Steve Peterson

Steve graduated from St. Norbert College in 2004 with a double major in Business Administration and Economics.  At SNC Steve was involved with varsity track and field, Phi Delta Theta, was a board of trustee’s student representative, and worked on-campus as an admissions tour guide and as a resident assistant.  SNC provided Steve with a number of other amazing experiences including a semester in London with an internship at the London Stock Exchange, a “Semester at Sea” academic voyage around the world, a 10-day Geography of Mexico field study, and a United Nations Seminar in New York City.

After graduating from SNC, Steve accepted a full assistantship to complete a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Minnesota.  Steve strongly believes that his SNC education prepared him well for this advanced degree.  Steve interned at the City of Minneapolis while completing his graduate degree.

Steve now works as a transportation planner for SRF Consulting Group in Minneapolis, MN.  SRF is a group of planners, architects, and engineers who specialize in transportation-related projects.  In his position, Steve assesses the financial feasibility of future road projects, writes long-term plans for future transit and transportation systems, proposes environmental mitigation measures for large-scale transportation projects, recommends changes to improve safety on the roadways, and designs new recreational trail systems.  Steve works with a variety of governmental clients including cities, counties, and states primarily across the Upper Midwest.  On a daily basis he interacts with engineers, politicians, police officers, city planners, developers, and the general public.  Steve must use quantitative, writing, presentation and problem-solving skills in this fast-paced career.

Steve credits much of his career success to his experiences inside and outside of the classroom at SNC.  Steve gives back to SNC both financially and as a volunteer alumni admissions representative for Minnesota.  Steve is married to his wife Jennifer (Whittington) Peterson who was a 2004 graduate of SNC and is now a 1st grade teacher in the Twin Cities.
