What does the Career Services Office do?
The Career Services Office provides services to current students and alumni.  The services provided include career counseling and self assessment inventories, which are used to help identify interests, values and skills.  Career Services offers assistance in preparing and searching for jobs and internships.  Graduate school preparation assistance is also available.  A multitude of online resources are available on the Career Services website.

Career Services is available to St. Norbert College current students and alumni.  

What are your hours?
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Evenings by appointment
Closed on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. for campus Common Prayer

Do you have walk-in hours?
Walk-in hours are offered during the academic year.  Please check our office hours for the current list of walk-in times.

We are located in John Minahan Science Hall, Room 106.  Our office is in the lower level of the building.

I'm only a freshman.  Should I be thinking about a career already?
Yes!  It is never too early to begin planning for your future.  Please schedule an appointment with a career counselor to learn more about our office and to discuss ways we can help you in planning for a major or a career. 

Is there a test I can take that will tell me what to major in?
We do not give tests in our office, we'll save that for your professors.  We do however offer a number of career assessments that you can take to help identify your skills, values and interests as they relate to academic and career exploration.  Please contact us to further discuss available career assessments.  

Do you offer computers for student use?
Yes, we have five computers in our office that students can use, as well as a printer for student use. 

How do I find a job on-campus?
Student employment is managed through the Financial Aid Office.  Please visit the Financial Aid website to learn about on-campus job opportunities. 

I am interested in an internship.  What do I need to do?
It is great that you are considering an internship!  Please visit the Career Services Internship webpage to learn more about the process.  If you have specific questions regarding internships, please contact our Internship Coordinator, Jenny Schroth

Are there alumni I can contact to network with?
Yes!  Career Services offers the Career Contact Program, which provides opportunities for students and alumni to interact with professionals from career fields in which they have an interest.  Currently there are 400 contacts who have volunteered for the Career Contact program and many of the contacts are SNC alumni.  To use the Career Contact Program, you must first register for Career Connections through the Career Services web site.

Can Career Services help me with graduate school?
Yes!  Our Graduate School webpage includes a variety of information regarding graduate school.   We also offer books in our Career Services library to help prepare you for graduate school.   Career counselors can also review personal statements for your graduate school applications.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment to discuss graduate school. 

How do I access full-time job and internship position postings?
Career Services manages Career Connections, which is an online database of internships and jobs posted by employers interested in hiring a SNC student or alumni.   In order to view the jobs and internships, you must first register for Career Connections and complete a short profile.  Within a work day of registering, current students and alumni will receive an e-mail message from Career Services acknowledging their request to use the system. Once you have been acknowledged as an active user of the system simply return to the student login page whenever you want to utilize the system.

How can I give back to Career Services at St. Norbert College?
There are a number of ways to be involved with our office.  One way is through our Career Contact Program, which provides opportunities for students and alumni to interact with professionals from career fields in which they have an interest.   To become a Career Contact,  register and/or login to Career Connections. You will also be provided with other opportunities to become involved with Career Services as a professional partner. These include hands-on activities like mock interviews, networking events, panels and workshops, participation in the St. Norbert College Full-time Job and Internship Fair and opportunities to recruit undergraduates for internships and graduates for full-time positions.  Another way to be involved is to submit an Alumni Profile.   These brief but rich summaries offer a unique way for prospective and current students to envision what they can do with a degree from St. Norbert College.  Please contact Jerry Donahue, Director of Career Services, if you would like to submit an Alumni Profile.

What percent of SNC graduates get jobs upon graduation?
We now have the results of our graduate survey for the last 5 years on our website.  Please check out the graduate survey results for detailed information on employment status, salary ranges, location of employment, continuing education and career goals. 

What percent of SNC graduates continue on to graduate school?
On average, 15-20% of our graduates pursue graduate or professional school after graduation.  Please see our Graduate School resources online for more information. 

What can my son do with a major in Philosophy?
St. Norbert College is proud to give students a strong liberal arts education, which prepares our students from all majors to work in a variety of fields.   Please view the What Can I Do With This Major webpage for more information on career paths.   Career Services offers assistance to students in choosing majors, as well as determining career paths.  

Can I visit Career Services and/or meet with a Career Counselor to discuss my son/daughter's career options?
We are pleased to provide career information to parents; however it is essential that your son/daughter assume the primary responsibility for their own career development.  Please encourage your son/daughter to schedule an appointment with Career Services to discuss their career development and address any major or  career-related questions.
