Career Topic of the Month: Career Services Overview

Career Services is committed to providing comprehensive career development and job search services to students and alumni.  This is accomplished through individual career counseling and the services, programs and events listed below.  To receive individualized attention on any of the topics outlined below, please contact Career Services.  

Self-Assessment

  • The goal of Self-Assessment is to identify interests, values, skills as they relate to academic and career exploration.
  • Available Resources: 
    • FOCUS: Assessment of your interests, values, skills, personality and preferences.  FOCUS will then identify occupations that match each of these aspects of your profile, and provide you the opportunity to explore those that appeal to you.  Keycode: greenknights
    • Strong Interest Inventory: Helps you understand how your interests relate to the world of work and college majors.  This assessment is available online after you meet with a Career Services staff member.  Please contact Career Services to schedule an appointment.
    • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): Helps you understand how your personality preferences relate to the world of work.  This assessment is available online after you meet with a Career Services staff member.  Please contact Career Services to schedule an appointment.
    • MyMajors.com: Analyzes data about your values and high school experiences and provides a list of five majors that match your interests and preferences. 

Career Awareness

  • The goal of Career Awareness is to learn about the connection between majors and careers. 
  • Available Resources:
    • Are you unsure of the career possibilities for your chosen major?  Use What Can I Do With This Major to learn more about common career areas, typical employers and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities for each SNC major.
    • Career Exploration Day: Explore your career interests and options by networking with professionals representing a variety of occupations.  Tuesday, October 30, 3:00-5:00 p.m., Campus Center
    • Career Library: Numerous major, career and graduate school resources are available for check-out.

Career Exploration

  • The goal of Career Exploration is to learn as much as possible about your chosen career field. 
  • Available Resources:
    • Career Contact Program: Provides opportunities for students and alumni to interact with over 400 professionals from career fields in which they have an interest.  Contact a career contact to gather information that will help you make decisions about majors or career fields, strategies for finding employment or internships, or gaining admission to graduate/professional school.
    • Alumni Profiles: Check out the growing list of alumni participating in our database project centering on their current career status and experience.
    • Professional Internship Experience:  Obtain relevant work experience in your area of interest.

Career Resource of the Month: Career Connections

Career Connections is an online database of internships and jobs posted by employers interested in hiring a SNC student or alumni.   In order to view the jobs and internships, you must first register for Career Connections and complete a short profile, which will allow you to:

  • Search for internships and jobs.
  • Participate in the Resume Referral Program, which allows you to post your resume to be viewed by employers or allows the Career Services staff to refer your resume to employers based on their criteria.
  • Access over 400 Career Contacts (alumni and friends of SNC) who have volunteered to give career advice to SNC students and alumni.

Internship of the Month: Public Relations Intern

Why intern? Internships are a great opportunity to apply classroom theory to real life work and to acquire experience to make yourself more marketable for future employment. It can also be one way to "test" your chosen career area to determine if it is a good fit for you.

Public Relations Intern, Aurora Health Care, Green Bay

  • Description: As an intern with Aurora Health Care’s public relations team in Green Bay, you will have the opportunity to help carry out the integrated communications plan for the entire north region, which includes Brown, Door, Marinette, Manitowoc and Outagamie counties.  Assist with three main areas of responsibility: Media Relations, Internal Communications and Crisis Management.
