Career Topic of the Month: Generations in the Workplace

This is the first time ever in American history that four generations of people are together in the work place. Each generation of people operate by their own set of values and attitudes towards work. Because each generation is distinctly different, conflict can sometimes occur. Below is a brief description of the four separate generations (the timeline is not a scientific breakdown of years, but is rather subjective):

  • Veterans/Traditionalists: Born between 1922 -1945, Age 64 and older
  • Baby Boomers: Born between 1946 -1964, Age 45 - 63
  • Generation X/Xers: Born between 1965 - 1980, Age 29 - 44
  • Generation Y/Millennials: Born between 1981 - present, Up to Age 28
