Non-credit Internship Registration Requirements - On or Off Campus
To have a non-credit internship experience officially recognized by the College, the following requirements must be met. This includes overseas non-credit internships not associated with a study abroad program.
1. Internship Learning Agreement
Complete an Internship Learning Agreement for EACH summer and academic year you intern, even if your site remains the same, and turn it into the Career Services Office within ONE WEEK of your start date. Please contact the Assistant Director of Career Services - Internships if Learning Agreements will be submitted after the first week of beginning your internship. Career Services contact information can be found on the form.
Your site supervisor will need to sign the contract and both parties should retain a copy. It may be helpful to review Learning Agreement Tips and a Sample. The learning agreement (and thus the internship) needs to be approved and signed by Jenny Schroth, Assistant Director of Internships at SNC. If the internship is on-campus, the Career Services Office will make a copy of the learning agreement for the Financial Aid Office so they are aware of your internship status. You will be contacted if your internship is not approved.
2. Site Visits
Site visits will be conducted by Jenny Schroth, Assistant Director of Internships, midway through the semester/summer with as many student interns and supervisors as can be managed. During the site visit, learning goals and the internship experience will be discussed. Students and supervisors should contact Jenny Schroth with any concerns or to request a site visit.
3. Internship Evaluations
End-of-semester online evaluations will be dispersed to you regarding the internship experience and to work-site supervisors regarding your performance. Evaluations are required at the end of EACH semester and summer you intern. You are strongly encouraged to discuss both evaluations with your supervisor, which can serve as an excellent reflection and learning opportunity. Both the student and supervisor should retain a copy of each of the evaluations. Click here to access the student evaluation.
4. Hours
You must complete a minimum of 60 hours at your internship site, which will be documented on the end-of-semester evaluations by both you and your work-site supervisor.
5. Internship Certificate & Internship Profile
Upon completion of your internship, please contact Jenny Schroth, Assistant Director of Internships, if you wish to receive an internship certificate to use in your professional portfolio.
You may consider creating an Internship Profile as a way to market yourself to potential employers while creating a positive online presence. Internship Profiles may also aid current SNC students in their career exploration.
