Intern Profile: Kelly Armer
My final year at St. Norbert College has been an evolving decision-process: What direction, or rather, where do I wish to end up professionally with my degree in graphic design and business? While I do not know the definitive answer to this question, I believe my semester-long internship with KI is an experience that informs this process.
As the Communications Intern, I work in Original Equipment Industries (OEI), the division of KI that is dedicated to supporting Correctional Industry Program partnerships. In this position, I design product catalogs, which are then distributed to customers and end-users. I also create email advertisements, brochures, logos, and business card designs. The position entails working with the Communications Manager in every aspect of the publishing process. Another element of the job includes coordinating my designs with the needs of federal and state customers. The experience I am gaining working directly with clients will serve me well in the future.
My internship at KI has been extremely rewarding. I have learned so much about the print process, color, photography, and how to effectively combine the needs of a client with my own artistic vision. I will leave KI with an abundance of knowledge that cannot be taught in a classroom.
