I was extremely privileged to have been given an opportunity to intern at Sanimax in the Quality Control Lab. This was a great opportunity to not only gain work experience in a laboratory setting, but to increase my knowledge in the inorganic chemistry field. My time at Sanimax has been a tremendously hands-on and an independent experience within my chosen career path. My internship responsibilities included, but were not limited to, performing entire quality control tests (FAC Standard Color, Free Fatty Acids, Insoluble Impurities, Iodine Value, Moisture Analysis, Moisture and Insoluble, Refined and Bleached Color, Percent Analysis, and Titer Test) on the Sanimax product lines in a timely fashion, where I was able to present the data in daily meetings with cross functional departments which touched all teams within the organization. These meetings broadened my knowledge about Sanimax, and I began to not only report data, but to truly understand the affects of the data. By using my applied scientific lab skills, I also became more confident in my work and matured greatly as I advanced through my internship duties. I feel my internship has afforded me a glimpse of my future and provided me an eye-opening experience, because it consistently re-confirms that this is the career path I want to be in!
