Intern Profile: Autumn Burby
While in my last semester at St. Norbert College I had the opportunity to intern with the City of Green Bay’s Economic Development Department. Since I will be graduating with a degree in environmental policy, I was given the opportunity to work on a great deal of sustainability issues facing the City. Not only has this been one of the best experiences I have had as a college student, but it has also given me a great deal of insight into how a city the size of Green Bay, Wisconsin is addressing sustainability issues while also still managing to be successful in terms of economic development.
While interning for the City my responsibilities included organizing and researching all pertinent data for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, creating job profiles for the sustainability coordinator position the City will create under the EECBG program, researching and organizing home energy evaluation forms and guidelines while working closely with Focus on Energy, researching marketing information on the home energy evaluation, attending a variety of City meetings regarding economic growth, and miscellaneous projects concerning economic development.
During my time as an intern I’ve learned a great deal about government systems, especially city governments and the federal grant processes. I’ve also learned a great deal about government writing, which I think I have improved on. I can honestly say that because of this internship, my future is far more certain. I’ve learned how to conduct myself professionally and articulate my work to showcase my skills. The experiences I’ve gained while interning for the City of Green Bay have been invaluable.
