Intern Profile:Mike Cremer

Throughout the summer, I interned at Entercom Communications in Milwaukee. Entercom presented a unique opportunity because it owns three radio stations in the Milwaukee area: 103.7 KISS FM, 99.1 WMYX, and 1250 SportsRadio. During my internship, I had the opportunity to meet with on-air personalities, account executives, and other marketing professionals in the area through the weekly speaker series.

I learned the methods of promoting a radio station by going out into various communities and interacting with people. For example, during Summerfest, we interacted with our audience for 103.7 KISS FM by providing them with rub-on tattoos. It was very interesting and rewarding to meet the people who make up the audience for each radio station and to see how different and diverse our audience truly is.

Through this internship, I have learned how radio stations advertise, the workflow on a day-to-day basis, and how on-air personalities create a product and a program that is entertaining and fun for listeners. Since I want to become an on-air personality in the future, receiving attention in both aspects of broadcasting and marketing was very helpful, and I have learned a lot during this internship.

My internship at Entercom Communications has prepared me for the future because it has shown me how the radio industry functions, and how hectic it can be. At the same time, however, this internship has shown me how rewarding a career in radio can be because of the interaction with the audience, and the creativity that is needed in order to provide a fun and interesting program on a daily basis for your audience.
