Intern Profile: Amy Diestler
I interned at Schmidt & Associates, a financial advisory practice of
Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., because I wanted to learn about the
different career options available for my major. This was a great
opportunity to understand the different tasks and skills needed to become a
financial advisor and gave me the chance to apply lessons I had learned in the
classroom to real life experiences. It allowed me to see the finance and
accounting side of a small business, as well as the management side to make
sure everything in the office ran smoothly and efficiently.
My internship responsibilities included planning marketing events, helping
prep client files, greeting clients when they arrived at the office, and
various administrative duties. During this time, I gained experience in
networking with clients, financial knowledge, and working for a small company.
I also gained experience on how to plan a big event, which improved my
organizational skills and made me pay attention to small details. I feel
I learned how to effectively work with other professionals through my duties in
the office, which has improved my expertise and networking skills.
I feel my internship has prepared me for a career in the financial field and
has contributed to my professionalism by helping me develop a wide variety of
skills that will continue to be beneficial in my future endeavors.
