Intern Profile: Sara Dufeck
Imagine yourself working with TV, newspaper and radio reporters, writing news releases and internal newsletter articles. This is my role as a Public Relations Intern at Aurora Health Care. I work directly with the PR Manager for Aurora Health Care’s corporate affairs department. The experience was worthwhile and fun. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the PR field and what occurs in this type of position on a daily basis.
I was able to observe media interviews, attend news conferences and live radio shows. My responsibilities included two areas that the PR Manager is responsible for, media relations and internal communication. The tasks have included writing news releases and health columns, archiving news releases, print articles and broadcast stories. I’ve even had the chance to be an “internal reporter” for the employee newsletter. I was able to research a topic, interview employees and write stories for the newsletter.
Through this internship, I have learned the importance of deadline, details and time management. I’ve also learned how essential it is to be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment. I feel my internship has prepared me for my future and has helped me gain experience in both verbal and written communication that are important in pursing any career.
