I interned at Georgia-Pacific in Green Bay for
two years because it gave me a great chance to utilize coursework in a
real-life setting and learn more about my area of interest. This was a great opportunity to network with
professionals in my field, work in an office setting, and be challenged to meet
requirements and expectations of a full-time work position.
My
internship responsibilities included working in both a team and individual
setting to manage and assist with reporting and database services.
I
was able to work with customers to resolve issues, build reports to assist with
custom dynamic queries, and perform database and procedure changes to ensure
stability and accuracy.
During this time I gained experience in Cognos
reporting services, Oracle architecture, complex SQL calls, different analysis
and design techniques, and how a company manages transactions and database
services. This experience allowed me to
relate many classroom concepts to the work environment and utilize my skills
and knowledge. It was a continual
learning process where increased responsibilities came with meeting
expectations and time.
I feel my internship has prepared me for my
future and has helped me develop as a professional by challenging me to define
goals and create value for a company. By
working hard and challenging myself, I was able to increase my knowledge and
have fun doing something that I enjoy.
