Intern Profile: Katie Knapp

Towards the end of my sophomore year, I was asked if I would like to be an Intern for Union Catering.   I immediately accepted because it was a position caterers have to work for, and it would be beneficial to multiple aspects of whatever career path I choose.   I would like to work in Public Relations or Event Management, maybe even Marketing, after I graduate from St. Norbert.   Being an Intern with Union Catering has helped me learn about the preparation of events of all sizes and formality as well as effective time management and leadership.

Some of my internship responsibilities include training new caterers and bartenders, supervising peers, delegating duties for set-up and clean-up, and maintaining the bars.   These responsibilities have helped me improve communication and leadership skills as well as my ability to work under pressure.

This internship has shown me that hard work and determination are essential.   Without them, it is difficult to do anything successfully- such as an event for 400 customers.   The experience I gained through this opportunity has provided me with skills and knowledge in a variety of areas, which has helped prepare me for any career I choose to pursue.
