Intern Profile: Casey O'Connell
I interned at Career Services because I am interested in the counseling profession. This was a great opportunity to explore one aspect of the counseling field: career counseling. I was also able to improve and expand my interpersonal and presentational speaking skills.
My internship responsibilities included providing one-on-one support and encouragement to my peers during my weekly walk-in hours where I critiqued resumes and cover letters. I also provided outreach presentations regarding various aspects of Career Services to students in resident halls and student organizations.
During this time I gained experience in all of the valuable tools Career Services has to offer, and learned ways to market these different tools to my peers. By planning and organizing my different outreaches, I increased my marketing skills and learned more about different organizations around campus.
I feel my internship has prepared me for my future and has helped me develop as a professional by exposing me to one area of the “helping” profession. I enjoy helping people, and I especially enjoy helping my peers prepare for their own futures!
