I had the opportunity to intern with the Guyette Group at Merrill Lynch. As a BUAD/Finance major, I knew interning at a financial institution could be a great way to verify my choice of major. Although I was an intern, I certainly did not feel like one. The Financial Advisors I worked for encouraged me to attend office meetings and to meet and talk with as many other professionals as possible. I worked with organizing client files, which made me more familiar with how Financial Advisors coordinate different clients. In addition, I planned and attended client events. The Guyette Group was very generous in explaining and teaching me about what it means to be a financial advisor.
This experience gave me a fantastic look at the world of Financial Advising. It reaffirmed my choice of major and made me genuinely excited to enter the industry. I was able to broaden my networking skills and experienced a crash course in investing. I met a wide variety of professionals whom I hope will be able to connect me to a job after graduation. My internship was a fantastic ‘teaser’ for what is to come and only makes me more committed to my courses, since this experience has shown me how much I still have to learn.
